Hozier

I first heard Hozier like most people did, with Take Me to Church on the radio. As a gay kid in a small southern town I loved it and was responsible for dozens of the views on the music video ha. I listened to a few more songs from his self titled album here and there, as I have a bad tendency of not seeing what more artists have to offer. That all changed when Wasteland, Baby! came out. I listened to it on the first day after seeing it mentioned, then listened through it all again, then again. To this day it's probably still my favorite album of all time! Gun to my head I would probably struggle to tell you my least favorite song on the album

What can I say, the man just keeps on giving. Unreal Unearth was another immediate favorite and an album I can listen through completely, which is rare for me. Ive also since gone back and listened through all his debut album and it's much the same. He captures such a specific feeling in his songs that hooks me every time and his musical melodies are right up my alley. I doubt there will ever come a day I don't appreciate one of his songs, and if that day comes you can just take me out back as I've probably been replaced.

Favorite album: Wasteland, Baby!

Favorite song: No Plan

Seen in concert?: Not yet but top of the list

Noah Kahan

Noah Kahan captures the same vibe to me as Hozier, but with the added kick of feeling like I'm trapped in my small hometown. I got introduced to him much like Hozier, too, with his hit Stick Season that seemed to be everywhere around Covid time. Thankfully it didn't take as long for me to check out his other works and I love them! Stick Season is definitely my favorite as was the soundtrack of my life before I finally pushed myself to move across the country for a better life, leaving all my family behind. Even now I love listening through his artist radio, with the rainy winter weather here fitting his music in a different way. I can't wait for his new album which should be coming out soon!

Favorite album: Stick Season

Favorite song: The View Between Villages

Seen in concert?: Not yet but hopefully soon!

Tyler Childers

You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy! I grew up on classic country music before it eventually devolved into the bro country we sadly have now. Tyler Childers is the antithesis to the modern country I hate now though! An actual working class singer from the actual country who has thoughtful lyrics and compositions. To anyone who says they hate country, I implore you to listen through his Purgatory or his Live on Red Barn Radio albums, it might just change your mind! Listening to his music makes me nostalgic despite his music not being that old. Tyler if you're somehow reading this release an official version of Jersey Giant and my life is yours.

Favorite album: Purgatory

Favorite song: Lady May

Seen in concert?: Not yet but my #2 pick!

Zach Bryan

PLEASE PUT DOWN THE GUN AND LET ME SPEAK!! I know Zach Bryan isn't the best person in the world by a longshot but I can't help but love his music. Much like Tyler Childers music it reminds me of a time when 'country' wasn't overproduced pop music (pop isn't bad, but that's not what country is!). He probably has the most songs I like, mostly because the man has a lot of songs, but surprising to no one troubled people can write really good music. Despite that he's probably at the bottom of my list to see in person due to...well, his personality. I'm still salty he ghosted Noah Kahan when he was supposed to be a guest at one of his concerts. Maybe one day he'll get it a bit more together, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Favorite album: American Heartbreak

Favorite song: Heavy Eyes

Seen in concert?: Not yet but maybe one day!

The Front Bottoms

Okay this one I cannot defend. I was shown Twin Sized Mattress as a teen from my ex and I got hooked. I think soon after I had everyone of their songs they had out memorized and I honestly love all of them from those first few albums. They are also my first concert I went to!(ignoring the Christian one my dad forced me to go to as a 12 year old) It was in San Antone in a big metal warehouse during the Texas heat, but I had an absolute blast. This was before they got much more popular then they are now and had a very underground feel. I was able to get pretty close to the front of the stage but ended up having to leave early as I was overheating and nearly passed out. The second concert of theirs I went to was at the House of Blues in Dallas and thankfully had AC! I still knew every word of their songs then, too, and had an absolute blast. Sadly I haven't kept up with their newer stuff as my music tastes expanded, but I really want to listen to their newest album, You Are Who You Hang Out With!

Favorite album: Talon of the Hawk

Favorite song: Be Nice to Me

Seen in concert?: Twice! They were amazing both times :)

Mitski

I think if you are or ever were a sad girl, Mitski is mandatory listening. Her songs are so raw and emotional and as someone who happily listens along to depressing music she's right up my alley. It's sad to say but the first time I heard one of her songs was when watching Adventure Time with Francis Forever. As I went on living I just kept being exposed to a few of her songs here and there until I just had to listen to her works. I don't think she has a bad album or is capable of making a bad album and theres always three or four songs per album I have in my immediate rotation.

Favorite album: Be the Cowboy

Favorite song: I Bet on Losing Dogs

Seen in concert?: Not yet but hopefully soon!

boygenius

What can I say? I love Julien Baker, I love Lucy Dacus, I love Phoebe Bridgers! All three of them together is just a powerhouse and their album the record is proof of that. I love every song on that album and even have it on record (literally, not just the name ha). I love how they collaborate on each song and how each member has the chance to shine. Their self titled EP boygenius and the rest are also amazing, they really just never fail to deliver especially when they come together. They've gone back to their solo careers now but I'm waiting patiently for them to come back together again, especially if I get the chance to see them all tour together! So glad the tall one and the little one are dating now too :,)

Favorite album: the record

Favorite song: We're In Love

Seen in concert?: Not yet but hopefully if they decide to tour again :,)

Changes weekly based on what I'm listening to!
