Archive Note

My memory has never been the best and tends to slip away from me, even when I was young. As I get older and start to forget more and more I want to make sure important things don't fall through the cracks, never to be seen again. I created this page as a way to archive my past and make sure it can always easily be visited again.

Please be warned that I did not have a good childhood and there might be memories that are disturbing to some readers.

Timeline

Early Childhood
Father's sentencing (3-4 years old)

My father went to prison for vehicular manslaughter when I was about 4 years old. I have a vague memory of being in the courtroom during the trial. At one point my mom must have had me on her hip as she went up to the judge's podium, as I mostly remember staring up at the giant seal of Texas. I also remember my family (mom and two sisters) crying, possibly during the sentencing.

Nature's Hot Tub (Very young, perhaps 3-4 years old)

Every year my family would go a family reunion at Magers Campground (now Zubers River Camp) right across the river from Garner State Park. The area has lots of cypress trees that grow on the banks of the Frio River and as a kid I loved roaming the landscape, when I was little usually with adult supervision. At one point me and some other kids discovered a small pond of water trapped in the thick cypress roots, about the size of a large hot tub and much warmer than the river water. We reveled in it for a bit before my Aunt Sissy warned us that snakes loved to make their homes there and we reluctantly hot out.

Teenage Years
First day at Skidmore (12 years old)

After transfering to Skidmore-Tynan Middle School, I was as anxious as a retired greyhound from my time at Beeville. My first day I felt sick as usual and was just quietly getting through the day, though everyone was very friendly to me. I quickly made friends with another new kid, a girl by the name of Sabrina, who had a very...forceful personality. I also quickly befriended my now husband, Juan Luna, or I guess I should say he befriended me. I remember we had at least one class together and I caught him looking at me a few times, though I didn't feel intimidated as he looked very friendly. He claims he was instantly drawn to me and pretty much immediately abandoned his old friend group to hang out with me and Sabrina. I'm extremely lucky he did.
